One thing that’s vital for your chinchillas is that they have enough room to run, jump, move and generally go crazy on a daily basis. These little guys have incredible power in their hind legs, and it’s in their natural instinct to use that power to move around at high speed every day.

Because of this it really is essential that you consider your chinchilla’s home with care. Sure – there are many chinchilla cages available to purchase in pet stores, but many of these are really far too small for a chinchilla to spend too many hours a day inside.
Sure – chinchillas do spend a lot of their time sleeping, but when they’re awake the definitely need enough space to work out those high jinks. In fact, being able to run around regularly each day is essential for a chinchilla to remain in good health.
One important thing to ensure is that your chinchilla’s cage is tall enough. Chins can jump 6 foot in one leap (or higher), so it’s essential to have ledges in their cages so they can leap up and down. But you should also ensure that these are not too high or far apart, as if he falls you don’t want him to hurt himself.
