When browsing YouTube I came across this cute video that made me think about how important it is to make sure that our chinchilla’s home is as safe and secure as possible. After all, we pay a lot of attention to making sure that their home has lots of areas to hide and play, but one thing that we mustn’t forget to take into account is that chinnies are, by nature, excellent escape artists.
What amazed me about this video is that on first glance it seems that there’s no way that the little chinnie could escape. But when he finally does, it’s done with such ease and aplomb that he really does deserve a round of applause.
Of course, he’s not very old, and will soon (hopefully) have grown enough not to be able to squeeze though the bars in this way. But it made me realize just how difficult it is, not only to have a chinchilla proof cage, but to make sure the areas we let our chinnies run free around also don’t have any escape routes.
And, being as chinchillas are so incredibly intelligent, they will manage to seek out even the tiniest of holes or gaps that we might not even have noticed.
Bathrooms are often a good place to let your chinchillas play, as they’re often one of the easiest rooms in the house to be able to ‘chinproof.’
What kind of solutions have you come up with to ensure that when you let your chinnies run free that they’re not going to be able to escape and head for the hills? We’d love to hear from you, either by the comment form below or via our ‘contact us’ page.
Till next time – love those chinnies….
