It’s always fun to talk about the different names that many chinchillas go by. Sometimes we have a favorite name that we call them, other times a chin practically chooses a name for him or herself, according to a certain trait or something unique about them.
Of course, there are quite a few naturally occurring names for chins – such as Charlie or Chili, as well as ones that are completely “out there!”
We thought it might be fun to find out what some of the most popular chinchilla names are, along with some of the most unusual. And, of course, we need your help for that. So why not place a comment below, or send us an email if you prefer, about the names your chins have. And naturally, let us know about any chinnies you might have had in the past too – because these guys and girls will always have their own special places in our hearts.

Oh – and what’s your opinion on changing the name of a chinchilla? Perhaps you’ve adopted a chinnies from a rescue center (if so – a great big high five to you), or taken on a chinchilla from another home where he or she already had a name. Should you stick with the name the chin already has, or is okay to change it? Some people even consider it bad luck to change a pet’s name.
Whatever your view, we’d love to hear it.
